When we purchased our new car the conversation with the finance manager steered to my photography after he asked what we did for a living. He was quite interested in art and photography so I left a business card. Once we returned to pick up the car when it was ready he had more affirmation and compliments of my work to send my way than I've ever received. I was flattered to say the least. He loved my flora work, but wanted to see white roses. I took two shots for him. The first was Sunset Rose but my primary idea, and best shot, was Midnight Rose. Enjoy!

Holidays certainly were over. I have been busier than ever lately and this is good. I have new shots to share but I feel the end of summer approaching and that means much shooting and less posting. That's what winter is for, no? For now please enjoy a long overdue addition to the Skies category with the series Well Deserved.

One more for today. I've wanted to get a great shot of dragonflies for some time. They have been numerous in our back yard this year and I am now able to give you My Favourite Insect.

August 6, 2009

A long delay between posts, but much to share! During our summer holidays we made a visit to the Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The place was amazing! You can find the photos in the Flora index or directly access the series here.

July 9, 2009

I posted the best flora shots from the zoo trips this far. "Lavender and Orange Cups", "Standing Out" and "White" can be found at the end of the Flora section. One worth sharing, but not being given a permanent home is the unnamed photo below:

Enjoy!

My plans to spend much time at the Forestry Farm this year looks like they will come to pass. A friend and fellow photographer is even more interested in spending time there than me. Since he enjoys watching and shooting the animals so much I purchased a yearly membership and am pretty sure I will have many shots to share from our trips there. From this first trip I give you, Hoot, Wagoner, Communal Outhouse, Orange Eyes and Overseer.

I will post the flora photos from that trip soon. Enjoy!

June 28, 2009

I've posted a few new shots that deserve a permanent home here. First, our Poochie in Pink 1 and 2.

During a wheel I spotted a man enjoying a much needed head clearing on his lunch break. Please enjoy Two Views Past the Railings.

June 13, 2009

It has been a few weeks, but I've been working. Just haven't had time to post. Please enjoy Dieffenbachia and School Picture.

May 29, 2009

One new one from a walk down by the river. I hope you enjoy Traffic Bridge Stroll.

May 25, 2009

This evening I snatched the last three brownies and shot them before they disappeared. I hope you like what I called, "Brown-ies".

May 23, 2009

Today I've added a shot from yesterday when I was enjoying the first genuinely nice day we've had in weeks. It was of one of our bedding flowers; an Osteospermum Hybrid.

Enjoy!

May 22, 2009

Tuesday I received a package I've been waiting for in the mail. It added minor, but essential, pieces of gear to my photographic tools. "Priceless Gift" is the result.

As well, I posted some photos that got burried with the many shots from holidays last summer. I called them "Distant Hail". I had been meaning to add them for some time especially since they are scenery photos since I haven't had many of that nature for quite awhile. Enjoy!

One more late evening update. I added some new shots of Kiwi. The first was an after haircut picture. The before was up for some time. The other two were from some time on the deck today.

May 19, 2009

One more! From my work with Dave came two shots I wanted to include in my product/object photography. I called them "Strings and Keys". Enjoy!

May 15, 2009

I just completed some significant updates to the site. The most prominent are the addition of a second navigation bar at the top, the elimination of the "Artistic" category, addition of the "Flora", "The Little Things", "The Bigger Things" and "People and Portraiture" categories and relocation of the "Kiwi" category to the navigation bar.

As with any significant changes there is always the likelihood of mistakes & errors. I have tested it thoroughly, but appreciate any reports of errors you might find. Just drop me an email! If changes don't appear you may need to force-refresh the site on your computer by pressing ctrl+F5. Thanks!

I think my testing is complete. That doesn't mean there aren't any errors, but I haven't found any. As for the new work, with the rearranging of the site you might enjoy looking at everything again but here are my newest posts:

Everything in People and Portraiture
Easter Tulip
Just a Fern
5th

I have a number of ideas for new photos and a few more to post but have been quite busy shooting, post processing and writing the final lesson for my course on beginner digital photography which will be available for sale some time this summer. Now that those items are finished, as well as this much needed site overhaul, I can focus on shooting and posting more regularly. I hope to have even more for you soon!

It has been far too long since I have updated here. Most of my visitors spend there time on my main site, Jaysspace.com, so my updates, including new work, has been there. It is not my intent to neglect this location, but as I have many new pieces I need to recategorize and adjust a few things in this space. Please be patient. The upgrades are exciting and I will spend the time building this space and my new location on Facebook. If you wish to join just search Jay Scott Photography or click here to be taken there directly.

I took a film noir photo of myself. It took me awhile to decide to take it because of the nature of film noir. I was always going to stay away from the lewd side of some film noir and am pleased with the results. More to be said and the photo: "Just One Shot"

March 3, 2009

I finally got around to posting a photo I was very pleased with from a group I was shooting for our church to use as backgrounds for worship or any other purpose. I called it "5th".

As well I added a new photo of Kiwi that I took just this evening as our little shaggy friend is going to the dog salon tomorrow & will look very different when she returns home.

I have a few more to add, but have been quite busy lately. I'm feeling that late winter anxiety for the imminent, but slow in coming spring. I enjoy my studio work, but shooting the Silverspring Olympics on Saturday made me want to get out there, exercise and shoot.

February 12, 2009

The other night it was my intention to go photograph the ice towers between our house and the neighbors' but they had been knocked down earlier in the day so instead I decided to shoot the Banana Bread that my wife had just finished baking. I do have a collection of food photographs that I would like to find a home for on here but I am not convinced that they are of the caliber I want in order to display them. There may soon be a new section for food photographs in this space. I think that would be one of my favorite subjects since I love to eat and appreciate the effort and enhancement excellent presentation can provide to the dining experience. But for now please enjoy my Banana Bread.

January 30, 2009

I have four new photos for you today just when I thought I might not have anything new for some time.

I thought I was about to hit a dry spell and was running low on ideas for photos but I joined a group on Facebook called Saskatchewan Photo Contest. It has submissions from all skill levels, the winner is chosen by group members' votes and that winner chooses the category for the following week. I think the motivation of coming up with a new photo for each catrgory each week will keep me in new material and ideas which will end up here if I am pleased with the results. My shot for this week, in the contest category of "Old", is "Grandma's Reading Chair". If you are on Facebook you can view all of the group's photos by searching for the group within Facebook.

Last week we had some fog overnight that resulted in some excellent hoar frost. Before the forecasted wind I got out and enjoyed the beauty. My favorite shot was "The Empty Bench"

The final two I have for you were dug up from my arechives. I was in the process of making some changes to this space, experiencing computer hiccups and busy with the pace of summer so they never got posted. There is no question that finding these got me anxious for Spring and for Summer thunderstorms. I give you "Light Pollution 1" and "Light Pollution 2"

As always, thank you for looking!

January 24, 2009

I guess I am on a roll! I don't think I have ever posted this many photos as close together but it feels good. It feels like I am keeping this site new and getting to the point where I may need to filter out a few less deserving photos. They certainly had their importance when they were first posted but as my experience grows the responsible thing to do would be to remove the less deserving work.

My two newest pieces for you are entitled Sting and Tech. Both took a lot of effort to get the look that I wanted, especially Tech because I was working with seven light sources, but that is the effort that I am happy to put into every shot so that it looks exactly as I want it to.

January 20, 2009

More water drops! I don't want to over do it on this subject, but they are a lot of fun to capture. Lightning might be my only more preferred subject. My two newest water drop photos can be seen in the Artistic section or directly is "Drop in a Bucket" and "Splash!" for your enjoyment.

January 12, 2009

I have added a photograph that has been forming in my head for months. I felt the vision I had for it was complete and the time to shoot was here. The end result was what I sought, though not exactly what I envisioned. I give you Comfort in Red.

January 8, 2009

I gave water drops my first attempt and am pleased with the results. You can find the first in the Artistic section of my site or directly here. I may have a new favorite subject after this shoot and new ideas are coming to me regularly so I hope to have more for you soon!

December 30, 2008

My mom receivedv a very special gift this Christmas that was special to me as well. They certainly are More Than Just Beans.

December 14, 2008

After time without my camera while it was away being serviced I was very ready to have it back and get going on some photos I had in my mind. That combined with the Christmas season and its busyness has taken from my work and updates on here. But, despite the time of year and other obstacles I do have one photo to share with you. Please enjoy House and Heart Warming.

September 30, 2008

I added a photo I took with my dad's assistance Sunday evening. I called it "Power Revealed" and can be found in the Artistic section. I would have preferred to use something more powerful than a 3.3L minivan engine, but the photo is sound, my van was clean for a change and I hope the shot is pleasing and causes some head scratching.

September 24, 2008

I've finally added a section featuring our little buddy, Kiwi. At some point I might add a section in the nav bar below the banner but for now, the link to her pictures will be on the index as seen above. I'll try to add new ones often. Enjoy!

September 23, 2008

Six new photos are posted in my Artistic section. It has been longer than I intended between posts, but those last summer wrap up projects and chores seemed to arrive all at once. I have caught up and will get back on track with new photos for your enjoyment on a regular basis. For now, please enjoy:

Aster Novi Belgi
Mixed Nuts
Pertified Oreo
What Gravity?
Battle Begins at Sunrise
and Closing In

August 20, 2008

I just posted my latest artistic photo called Meeps. I guess I'm on a roll, but this is how I wanted it to be with regular, frequent additions. After about a six month stretch with nothing new posted I have some catching up to do. I will try to keep this pattern going.

August 12, 2008

I've had a few ideas in my mind lately. Today I completed the creation of one of them. More will follow, but please enjoy my latest piece, Cherry Chill in the Artistic section of my site.

August 10, 2008

I've added pictures of the florae we encountered on our summer vacation. Due to the nature of the shots they are classified as artistic. As well, I added another pair new photos to my collection of studio work. They can be found in the Artistic section of the site as well. Simplicity seems to be a theme for me lately. Perhaps it is my desire after the first half of an enjoyable, but busy summer.

Enjoy!

August 1, 2008

I just finished posting all of the wildlife photographs from our summer vacation. I hope you enjoy them. There will be more new photos in the scenery and artistic section soon, but for now please enjoy the latest wildlife I've encountered!

Once again the craft sale at Lac Pelletier was a success. I saw a number of familiar faces and a large number of new ones. To those visiting for the first time I welcome you! I hope those who I took one of my cards at the sale are some of the new visitors.

Along with the new faces I gathered some information. I was aware of the demand for greater variety in my greeting card inventory in the past but after this sale the demand was even more evident. In the past I had to order massive quanities of cards to keep my prices fair but that resulted in an overabundance of inventory and investment on mypart. I am currently working towards an alternate method that will allow me to be more efficient and benefit everyone. I will likely be accepting greeting card orders of any number and combination of my photos soon.

With our holidays concluded I have a number of new photos I wish to share with you. I will be working on them and this site hard in the next few weeks when not working on daily work from regular shoots. The new pictures can be identified quickly by the symbol on the index page of each category of pictures.

Thank you and check bck regularly for my newest pictures!

Once again, I must apologize for the delay in my updates. I have had a number of life issues to address but they have been dealt with and what I would call the prime photography season is here! As well the site has been given a slight revamp for functionality and a new category, "Artistic", added to include my work with unique lighting, macro photography or abstract subjects.

Since my last post I participated, photographed and hosted a portion of an accessible house tour here in Saskatoon. The objective was to educate the occupational therapists at OnTask Rehab Ltd in the types of barrier-free modifications from the past and present as well as talking to the homeowners so OnTask can more effectively help their clients with similar needs. It was an educational experience for us all and a great opportunity to get to know the therapists at OnTask so they can in turn better help my disabled peers. One of my biggest hopes was to use my photography to bless others and helping my peers out is an added bonus.

As for my artistic work and prints for sale, I've only had the opportunity to take a few that I would consider interesting to someone looking for prints or art for their homes. I will be posting them soon so check back soon. I'll identify the newest work both here and with a noticable symbol in the galleries.

Thanks,

Jay

Happy New Year everyone! My apologies for being out of touch for such a long period of time. I encountered some health problems that put life on hold for some time. My hope is that the final step in completing my dealings with these issues will begin next week. I may be recovering for yet another month, but I will be back with new work soon. Thank you for your patience.

Since I last updated this site I have made the investment into some more professional gear. Certainly the camera does not make the photographer, but the right gear does make it easier. As I learn and gain experience I will continue to increase the arsenal of equipment once each additional piece has been mastered. There is such a thing as too much for a person's level of experience be it a camera, motorbike or recipe. I hope to have new images from my new camera posted in a few weeks. It has been a learning curve and the health issues have greatly reduced my opportunities to get out there and shoot. I'll update this section as soon as I'm feeling up to it. Our new puppy will be coming home to us soon and I won't need to go far to get pictures of her at her cutest to share with you.

We had a good time showing my wares in Swift Current at the Windfall Arts & Crafts Show this past weekend. I would like to say thank you to those who supported me both with purchases and with compliments. I love photography but I love sharing my gift with others. Hearing the affirming words from those who like what they see is greatly appreciated.

To those coming to this website for the first time because of a business card or from receiving one of my greeting cards, welcome! Please have a look around and let me know what you think. Information on purchasing my products can be found on the contact page of my site.

Finally, I was unaware of huge interest people would have in a variety of greeting cards. I only had one type, with a Christmas scene, prepared as I thought that would be the primary interest at this time of year. With the current method of preparing those cards it will require a significant investment on my part so I have explored some alternatives. If these cards interest you please contact me and let me know of your interest and the photos you would like to see on a greeting card. Currently my greeting cards are 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". Let me know if a different size would be your preference. The more interest I receive the easier it will be to determine the best quality and most affordable method so my product is of excellent quality and my prices remain fair. The following is an example of the 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" greeting card.

Now mostly settled in our new home, I had thought that the next event was indeed the Windfall Arts & Crafts Sale but the need for a break from the work of a new house took me down by the river for a Fall stroll and resulted in my newest piece.

I have been informed of the location of my table at the craft sale. It is table #14, third from the Wal-Mart end of the Swift Current Mall. Hope to see you there!

September 11, 2007

Amongst packing to move into our new home that will be completed in just a few days, I have been preparing for the upcoming Windfall Craft Sale in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on Friday, October 12 from 7 - 10 PM and Saturday, October 13 from 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM. I've added greeting cards to my inventory for this show. They will be 4.25" x 5.5" and feature my photo "Hoar Frost".

Finally, I've added one new photo to my site. I've entitled it "Tired Ole Case" and added a digital twist to it making the photo sepia toned then bringing back the true colour of the tractor. Enjoy!

My first show, at the Lac Pelletier Craft Sale, was a success. Certainly there are things to be learned about the business aspect of this growing endeavour but the little wrinkles will be ironed out with trial, error and experience. Thank you very much to those who came out and to those who supported me. I hope you enjoy your purchase for many years to come.

I have a few new photographs for your enjoyment in the Scenery section of the site. Thank you for visiting and check back often!
