Fall Fruits

It has been an unsatisfying summer weather-wise here in Saskatchewan this year. The rest of the country has been hot but we have received the short end of the stick. If anything it has taught me to make the absolute most of each of the nice days we have had.

Last Thursday we reached 31 degrees and I spent four hours at the Forestry Farm and zoo. More than one hour was spent under an ornamental crabapple tree just enjoying the breeze and butterflies, setting up lights and photographing the apples.

Yes, I got some nice photos, but watching the people enjoying the garden, taking in the air and peacefulness and feeling a certain sentimental melancholy about the fading summer that wasn’t certainly made better use of the day than sitting at home.

Spring Has Come 5

Just in time for summer’s arrival, I post my final shot from this series. There are more waiting to be shared as I get them ready for you and I guarantee there will be more before this season quickly comes and goes as it always does.

White Roses

After shooting Sunset Rose and Midnight Rose I decided on some macro shots. With bright sun from behind and a reflector and flash in front I shot these:

Midnight Rose

Date Shot: September 4, 2009
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Notes: When we purchased our new car the conversation with the finance manager steered to my photography after he asked what we did for a living. He was quite interested in art and photography so I left a business card. Once we returned to pick up the car when it was ready he had more affirmation and compliments of my work to send my way than I’ve ever received. I was flattered to say the least. He loved my flora work, but wanted to see white roses. This was the second shot with the dozen I bought, but was my primary idea. I like it better than Sunset Rose but am glad I tried both.

I like it, but truly prefer Midnight Rose to Sunset Rose.

Muttart Conservatory

We visited the Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on July 21, 2009 as part of our summer holidays. It would be too much to post all 35 in one blog post so please follow this link, or the one in the left column, to view all 35.

White

Date Shot: July 2, 2009
Location: Saskatoon Forestry Farm, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Notes: There is a long row of these massive white blossoms at the Forestry Farm and as much as I like colourful flowers, these have a beautiful simplicity just made for black and white.

Osteospermum Hybrid

Date Shot: May 22, 2009
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Notes: A few snapshots of our unplanted bedding flowers while out enjoying a nice day produced a real keeper of these vibrant orange flowers that really caught my attention at the greenhouse. By the end of the season what started as a few blooms had grown to overflow our planters.
